PINTOR ALTEÑO PLASMA "MAMA PLASTIC PACHAMAMA" Marka Sataki TV Bolivia.
Christian Laime is an artist from Los Altos, La Paz, Bolivia. His series conveys a woman, his mother, dressed in plastic. The metaphor contemplates a world filled with plastic, a protest about the plastic pollution in the high Andes of Bolivia. The series is called in Quechua, Plastic Mother Earth.
The iconography of the virgin has appeared since the colony as a symbol of Mother Earth. In suppression and resistance, the image reappears in many forms today. I argue that the mother of Christian Laime has become a virgin icon that relives in each painting. In other series, Laime also paints men except they are dressed in conquistador's armors or royalty coats and capes. Instead of a Spanish helmet or a feather hat they all wear the typical Bolivian, bowler hat, as a decolonization act.
