Florida International University invited me to do a masterclass in watercolor. The objective of these watercolor sessions was to inspire students to create full color posters for the Wolfsonian Museum. The Wofsonian had an exhibition about Cuban music in November of 2022. They wanted FIU students to exhibit posters inspired by Cuban music rhythms.
I used a short lecture on color theory, “The seven Color Contrasts” by Johannes Itten[1]. And the psychological effects of color according to Farber Birren.[2] My watercolor demonstration was made with Bauhaus-style experimentation. I presented seven small watercolor exercises. After they had to make a final watercolor, to interpret the sounds of music and react by making a painting in watercolors.
It was a very successful class, and everyone made very interesting watercolors.
